WLS provides a welcoming environment however children cannot be taken into our legal or social work appointments. If you are bringing children with you, we recommend you bring a female support person to supervise them during your appointment.
WLS is committed to the provision of a safe environment for our clients to discuss with their WLS solicitor or social worker confidential, sensitive or private issues. It is WLS’s strong preference that any client interviews be conducted with the client by herself because of the nature of the service we provide and the sensitive or private information that may be discussed. This is to remove any impediments to the client making a full disclosure about any concerns/risks especially of domestic and/or sexual violence. For the safety and comfort of our clients WLS is a women’s only space. We do not permit men to wait in the waiting room or to attend appointments.
Women’s Legal Service only provides legal advice and assistance in the areas of domestic violence, family law, child protection, child support and sexual assault. For any other legal matters please visit the Community Legal Centres Queensland website to find a community legal centre in your area that may be able to offer free legal advice on any other matters.
For eligible clients, our Statewide Legal Advice Helpline can arrange a free 30 minute appointment with an experienced family law solicitor. Women who are eligible for an appointment can nominate a day or evening appointment, by phone or in person, subject to availability. For more information see Statewide Legal Advice Helpline. Eligible clients who come to our evening sessions will get around 30 minutes with one of our experienced volunteer family lawyers.
