Family dispute resolution plays a key role in parenting matters, but safety planning remains critical where there are risks to children or caregivers. This session will support professionals to navigate family dispute resolution processes alongside effective, child focused safety planning, whether matters are before the court or being managed more informally.

Topics include:

    The role of Family Dispute Resolution in parenting matters
    Understanding when FDR is appropriate and when safety concerns require alternative pathways
    Safety planning in parenting matters involving children
    Managing safety in court-based parenting proceedings

Protected Confidences
Protected Confidences

Tuesday 21 April, 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Recent changes to the Family Law Act have clarified how “protected confidences”, may be dealt with in family law proceedings to protect sensitive information and documents. This session will support professionals to understand the factors the court will take into account when deciding if records should be produced or relied on, and the practical implications for clients and service providers.

Topics include:

    What is a protected confidence
    How protected confidences differ from Counselling Notes Protect / Sexual Assault Counselling Privilege laws
    What kind of protections can be sought and the factors the court considers
    Practical considerations

About Community Legal Education

WLSQ delivers community legal education (CLE) for service providers, volunteers, the community and women across Queensland, including in rural, regional and remote areas of the state.

WLSQ presents specialised CLE sessions in the following areas:
