Wednesday 26 August 2026, 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Sentencing is a significant stage of the criminal justice process and one that can shape how people understand and experience justice. Whether supporting victim-survivors, people accused of offences, or others engaging with the criminal justice system, an understanding of sentencing can provide valuable context for understanding court outcomes.
This session will provide an overview of sentencing in Queensland, including the different types of sentences available and the factors courts consider when determining an appropriate penalty.
Participants will gain insight into the legal principles that shape sentencing outcomes and a deeper understanding of the role sentencing plays within the broader justice system.
