Companion Animals Webinar
Companion Animals Webinar

Tuesday 9th June 2026, 12:00pm – 1:00pm

This webinar explores the critical role of companion animals in DFV situations and how recent legal reforms and support pathways can help.

Topics Include:

  • How animals are impacted by DFV: risks, barriers, emotional toll
  • Family Law Act reforms: Courts can now make specific orders about companion animals during separation, considering factors such as emotional bonds, history of care, and any abuse or threats involving the animal.
  • DFVPA protections: Threats, harm, or control involving animals is recognised as part of domestic and family violence behaviour. These provisions allow for protective orders that include companion animals, helping ensure their safety alongside the victim-survivor.
