About Our Website
The Women’s Legal Service website is accessed by thousands of women all over Queensland every year. We thank Hand Heart Pocket, the Charity of the Freemasons for funding this site which has greater functionality and more information than previous sites, meaning more women and their children can have access to information and resources when they need it most.

Women Gathering - Elisa Jane Carmichael
Women have travelled across their lands to protect, support and guide each other. In this work they are represented as three dilly bags, a coolamon, and the trees standing tall. The dilly bags are woven with diverse techniques distinct to regions across Australia. All of these objects were once used by women -gathering food and water, and holding their children. The objects are bound together with string, signifying the ongoing strength and resilience of women.
The trees represent women on country, growing together and standing strong. They stand on Aboriginal land, where law and culture have been practiced for millennia. Today the Queensland Women’s Legal Service continues to work on this land practicing and ensuring equality, fair and just treatment for women.
