About this
fundraiser
This is a song with purpose. Speak the Truth
is a response to the outpouring of community
grief, disbelief and search for answers that
occurs every time a life is lost to domestic
violence.
Written by a domestic violence survivor and
advocate, “Speak the Truth” was destined to
be performed live at our Dancing CEOs event
to raise much needed funds for Women’s
Legal Service – until COVID-19 intervened.

Speak the Truth aims to acknowledge the
impact of domestic violence on society and
encourage anyone experiencing domestic
violence to speak out. The song reassures
victims that our heart – the heart of the whole
community – is with them.
Every week in Australia one woman is killed
through domestic violence. The enemy is
silence. So raise your voice and sing.

FAQs
Women’s Legal Service Queensland provides free legal and social work help to women who have experienced domestic and family violence. Legal advice is essential to safety. Last financial year, the service provided 30,000 services. But sadly, across June we have experienced a 40 per cent increase in calls for help to our Helpline compared to the same time last year.
While demand is rising, we’ve been forced to cancel all major fundraising events for 2020. When combined these events usually generate more than $700,000 for our frontline services.
More women and their kids experiencing domestic violence than ever before are taking the brave step to reach out for help. Help us help them.
100% of funds raised will support the work of Women’s Legal Service Queensland building safer futures for women and their kids experiencing domestic violence.
